Orthopedic Revenue Intelligence From Referral to Post-Op
See which patients with imaging never reached a surgical consult, which post-op visits were missed, and which referrals from urgent care and primary care never booked.
What is orthopedic revenue intelligence?
Orthopedic revenue intelligence follows each patient along the path from referral to imaging, surgical consult, surgery and post-op, and finds where they left it: MRIs with no visit to review them, surgeries and injections cancelled without a new date, missed post-op visits and stalled referrals. Nuvory, healthcare revenue leakage intelligence for specialty practices, ranks them so coordinators act first on what matters most.
Where does the orthopedic care path break?
Orthopedic care is a path: referral, first visit, conservative care, imaging, surgical consult, surgery, post-op. Revenue leaks at every turn of that path, usually when a patient was supposed to come back and did not.
Referrals that never book
Patients sent by primary care, urgent care, the ED or a physical therapist who are never contacted or never seen.
Learn moreImaging with no surgical consult
Patients whose MRI was completed after a nonsurgical visit and who never returned to discuss the results or their options.
Learn moreImaging orders left open
MRI and CT orders waiting on prior authorization, or approved and never scheduled.
Learn moreCancelled surgeries and injections
Cases and injection visits cancelled for clearance, authorization or personal reasons, with no new date.
Learn moreMissed post-op visits
Patients who skipped a visit in the post-op schedule the surgeon set, often the later ones once they feel better.
Learn moreRTM candidates
Patients on a home exercise or therapy plan who may be candidates for remote therapeutic monitoring, after clinician review.

Why do patients leave between imaging and surgery?
Patients leave because the path to surgery is long and the patient decides when to take each next step. A patient sees a PA or a sports medicine physician, tries conservative care, gets an injection, maybe physical therapy, then imaging. Only then may a surgeon see them. Each step ends with the same instruction: call us if it does not get better. Many never call, and some get care elsewhere.
Imaging is the biggest handoff. MRI often needs prior authorization, may be done at an outside imaging center, and the results come back to a provider who is not the surgeon. If nobody books the results visit, the patient who might be a surgical candidate disappears from view. That gap is where orthopedic procedure conversion is won or lost.
Surgery adds its own steps: pre-op clearance from primary care or cardiology, authorization, a slot at the ASC or hospital, then a post-op schedule that runs for weeks or months. Workers' compensation and auto cases add adjusters and case managers. Any of these can stall a case without anyone formally cancelling it.
- Call-back care plans Telling the patient to call if symptoms persist puts the next step on the patient.
- Outside imaging Results arrive by fax or portal and may not trigger a visit.
- Long post-op schedules Later visits get skipped once pain improves, even though the surgeon wants them.
- Outside imaging arrives first Referred patients often bring imaging done elsewhere, and a resulted MRI with no results visit is easy to miss.
How does orthopedic revenue intelligence follow the path from referral to post-op?
Unlike orthopedic practice analytics that count visits and cases, Nuvory looks for the missing next step. It links referrals, visits, imaging orders and results, procedure orders, surgical cases and post-op appointments for each patient every night. It looks for the expected next step that has not happened: an MRI resulted with no follow-up visit, a surgical order with no case date, a post-op visit missed and not rebooked. Then it checks the schedule so booked patients are left off the list.
- Referrals Inbound referrals by source, flagged with no contact after 7 days or no visit after 14 days, both configurable.
- Imaging orders and results MRI and CT orders with status, and resulted studies with no visit after them.
- Procedure and surgical orders Injections, arthroscopy, joint replacement and other surgical orders matched to scheduled and completed cases.
- Appointments Cancellations and no-shows. Cancelled procedures are flagged after 2 days without rebooking and office visits after 7, both configurable.
- Claims and HIE (optional) Where connected, they help show care received at another facility.
Does Nuvory decide who is a surgical candidate?
No. Surgeons decide. Nuvory shows that a patient with completed imaging has not been back to review it, based on available data. Whether surgery is appropriate is a clinical decision made in the exam room.
Which conversion rates show where the path breaks?
Track these by location and subspecialty. Consults and cases completed after Nuvory flagged them are compared with your baseline, so leaders see the trend; it shows association with outreach, not cause.
| Metric | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Imaging-to-consult conversion | Resulted MRIs followed by a visit to review them. |
| Consult-to-surgery conversion | Surgical orders that reach a completed case. |
| Cancelled cases rebooked | Surgeries and injections cancelled that get a new date, and how fast. |
| Post-op schedule completion | Patients who complete the visits their surgeon set. |
| Referral conversion by source | Referrals seen, by urgent care, ED, primary care and PT source. |
| Open imaging orders by age | How long MRI orders wait on authorization or scheduling. |
How do referral, auth and surgical coordinators use the list?
Orthopedic groups have many specialized roles. Nuvory gives each one the slice of the path it owns.
- Clinical reviewerA surgeon or clinical lead signs off each rule from HealthArc templates after spot-checking real patients, including which imaging results should prompt a follow-up visit.
- Referral coordinatorWorks new referrals ranked by source and age, with orthopedic referral management built around who was never reached.
- Prior auth specialistSees imaging and surgical orders still open, so cases waiting on authorization do not fall out of view.
- Surgical coordinatorWorks cancelled cases and surgical orders without a date, ranked by estimated value, urgency and confidence.
- Front desk and MAsRebook missed post-op visits and raise open items with patients who already have a visit scheduled.
- Practice administratorReviews conversion and recovered value by location, subspecialty and provider.

Which orthopedic EHRs and sites does Nuvory work with?
Nuvory is not a scheduling system or a patient engagement app. It works alongside your EHR and the tools you already use. Many orthopedic groups run on ModMed, and Nuvory is designed to work with data from ModMed, athenahealth, eClinicalWorks and other supported EHRs through FHIR R4 APIs and, where the EHR supports it and your organization enables it, bulk export and SMART on FHIR. The athenahealth connection is live; on other EHRs, discovery confirms whether imaging results and surgical case data reach Nuvory.
Orthopedic groups often have multiple sites, an ASC and in-house imaging or PT. During discovery, HealthArc maps those locations and your local order codes so each one is measured correctly. For multi-site groups, see specialty medical groups; for the BAA and access controls, see security.
What separates a useful orthopedic tool from a report?
Ask whether a tool tracks the step after imaging, not just the imaging order; handles outside imaging results; separates authorization delays from untouched orders; follows the post-op schedule your surgeons set; and reports conversion by subspecialty and site.

Referral IntelligenceWhat Is Referral Leakage in Healthcare?
Referral leakage means different things to a specialty practice, a health system and a payer. Here is a clear definition, the four places referrals drop off, and the funnel metrics that show where your process loses patients.

Is Nuvory orthopedic practice growth software?
In one sense. Nuvory does not market to new patients. It finds patients already referred to or treated by your group who did not take the next step, so growth comes from care you already earned. Results are reported as completed care after detection against a baseline.
Can Nuvory track imaging done at an outside center?
Yes, where the result reaches your EHR or a connected HIE feed. If an outside MRI result is on file with no follow-up visit, Nuvory flags it. If the data is not available, staff can mark items done elsewhere with a reason.
Does Nuvory track post-op visits?
Yes. Nuvory compares post-op appointments in the EHR with the schedule your surgeons set and flags missed visits that were not rebooked. It does not set the post-op schedule.
Can Nuvory help with injection series?
Yes, where the plan is recorded as orders or recalls. If a patient's next planned injection has no date, or an injection visit was cancelled without rebooking, the patient appears on the list. Clinicians decide whether the next injection is appropriate.
How does Nuvory handle physical therapy?
If your group offers physical therapy, PT orders that were never started can be tracked like other open orders. Patients on a home exercise plan may also be flagged as RTM candidates for clinician review; nothing is enrolled without clinician approval and patient consent.
Which plan covers orthopedics?
Most orthopedic groups need Referral, Procedure and Scheduling Intelligence, which are on the Growth plan at $299 per provider per month. Recall Intelligence alone is on Starter. See pricing.
