Recover Missed Procedures, Referrals, and Recalls Across Your GI Practice

Nuvory finds the surveillance colonoscopies, open endoscopy orders, cancelled cases and stalled referrals your GI team cannot see in one place, and ranks who to call first.

What is gastroenterology revenue intelligence?

Gastroenterology revenue intelligence finds GI care that was planned but never completed: surveillance colonoscopies past the interval the endoscopist set, colonoscopy and EGD orders never scheduled, cases cancelled and not rebooked, IBD and liver follow-ups overdue, and referrals never seen. Nuvory is healthcare revenue leakage intelligence for specialty practices; it ranks each gap so schedulers act on the most valuable ones first.

Why do surveillance and endoscopy patients fall through?

GI patients fall through because one procedure depends on many hand-offs, and each has a different owner. The endoscopist sets the surveillance interval after pathology. A nurse or MA enters the recall. A scheduler books the case, sends prep instructions and confirms the escort. Pre-cert checks benefits. If one step stalls, the patient waits, and nothing in the EHR raises a hand.

Surveillance intervals are long. A patient told to return in several years forgets, moves, or changes insurance. The recall report mixes them with patients already booked or done elsewhere, so staff stop trusting it.

Endoscopy cancellations often have practical causes: a prep that did not work, no ride home after sedation, a blood thinner that needed a hold plan, a payer that wanted prior authorization. The slot gets refilled from the waitlist, which keeps the endoscopy schedule full while the cancelled patient goes without a new date. A busy unit can hide a long list of patients who never came back; our article on how GI practices lose revenue between consult and colonoscopy walks through each hand-off.

  • Orders written at the visit, never scheduled The patient planned to call back after checking a deductible or a work calendar. Nobody followed up.
  • Open-access referrals with no owner Direct-to-procedure referrals skip the office visit, so the usual clinic workflow never touches them.
  • Chronic GI patients without a next visit IBD and liver patients on long-term plans drift when one visit is missed and nobody rebooks it.

How does gastroenterology revenue intelligence find each gap?

Nuvory reads the data your EHR already holds every night and links it across each patient's GI journey: referral, consult, procedure, pathology-driven recall and follow-up. It checks every potential gap against what is already on the schedule, so staff do not call patients who are booked. Reports alone describe the gap; the ranked, verified list is what turns them into booked cases. For the recall side in depth, see colonoscopy recall management.

  • Recalls and procedure history Prior colonoscopy and EGD dates and the recall dates your clinicians entered. Nuvory does not set or change intervals; it reads the ones your endoscopists set.
  • Orders and appointments Open colonoscopy, EGD and diagnostic orders matched to scheduled, completed, cancelled and no-show cases. Our guide to finding colonoscopy orders that were never scheduled shows the manual version of this check.
  • Referrals Inbound referrals with no contact after 7 days or no visit after 14 days, both configurable.
  • Diagnoses and visits IBD, chronic liver disease and other chronic GI conditions tied to last and next visit dates.
  • Claims and HIE feeds (optional) Where connected, they show procedures done at another facility. Otherwise staff close the item as done elsewhere with a reason.

Does Nuvory decide who needs a colonoscopy?

No. Your endoscopists decide who needs a procedure and when, based on findings and pathology. Nuvory shows where the next step they recorded has not happened, based on available data. It makes no clinical decisions.

Who works the endoscopy queue, and how?

Each role gets a short list it can act on today. Booking still happens in your EHR.

  1. Clinical reviewer signs offA GI physician or nurse lead reviews each rule, built from HealthArc templates, and spot-checks real patients before it goes live. The intervals stay yours.
  2. Nuvory runs nightlyOverdue surveillance, open orders, cancelled cases and stalled referrals are rebuilt from the latest EHR data.
  3. Referral coordinator works new referralsOpen-access screening referrals and consult requests with no contact surface first, with the referring practice attached for gastroenterology referral tracking.
  4. Endoscopy schedulers work one queueCancelled cases, unscheduled orders and overdue surveillance appear ranked by estimated value, urgency and confidence. Staff call from Nuvory with verified practice numbers, book in the EHR and send prep instructions as usual.
  5. MAs and nurses use the visitIf a patient with an overdue recall already has an office visit coming up, Nuvory suggests raising it there instead of calling.
  6. Administrator reviews outcomesProcedures completed after detection are tracked against a two-year baseline, by location and endoscopist.

Which GI numbers should leadership track?

Track these monthly by site and endoscopist. A case completed after Nuvory flagged it counts against your pre-go-live baseline; that link is correlation with outreach, not proof that the call caused the booking. For more on baselines, see revenue leakage metrics for COOs.

MetricWhy it matters in GI
Ordered colonoscopies completedShows how many orders turn into completed cases, and where they stall: pre-cert, scheduling or prep.
Overdue surveillance, count and ageHow many patients are past the interval their endoscopist set, and by how long.
Cancelled cases rebookedHow many cancelled procedures get a new date, and how fast.
Referral-to-procedure conversionFor open-access and consult referrals, how many reach a completed procedure.
IBD and liver follow-up bookedChronic GI patients with a next visit on the schedule.
Estimated recovered procedure valueGI procedure recovery measured as completed cases after Nuvory flagged them, against baseline.

Does Nuvory work with ModMed and other GI EHRs?

Yes. Nuvory works alongside the EHR you already use; it does not replace it, and staff keep booking cases there. Many GI groups run on ModMed, and Nuvory is designed to work with data from ModMed, athenahealth and other supported EHRs through FHIR R4 APIs and, where the EHR supports it and your organization enables it, bulk export and SMART on FHIR. athenahealth runs as a live connection today; for ModMed and the rest, discovery confirms which GI order types and recall fields come through.

Once your admin approves the connection, HealthArc loads about two years of history, maps your locations and procedure order types, and builds a baseline. Your timeline is confirmed during the demo.

What should a GI group ask before choosing a tool?

Ask whether a tool reads the intervals your physicians set rather than inventing its own, skips patients already booked, separates open-access referrals from consults, handles procedures done elsewhere, and reports by endoscopist and site. HealthArc signs a business associate agreement with every customer, and HealthArc's platform is covered by a SOC 2 Type II report; see security.

Questions, answered

More in our FAQ, or ask our team.

Does Nuvory set colonoscopy surveillance intervals?

No. Your endoscopists set intervals based on findings and pathology and record them as recalls or orders in the EHR. Nuvory reads those dates, finds patients who are past due and not already booked, and ranks them. It does not make clinical decisions or determine who needs a procedure.

Is Nuvory colonoscopy recall software or a reminder tool?

It works before your reminder tool. Reminder tools send the message; Nuvory finds which patients should get one, checks the schedule, and verifies the outcome. Your texting vendor can be connected.

How does Nuvory handle cancelled endoscopy cases?

Procedures cancelled without a new date are flagged after two days by default, and the window is configurable. Where the EHR records a cancellation reason, schedulers see it, so they know whether to start with prep help, a ride, or a prior authorization question.

Can Nuvory track open-access endoscopy referrals?

Yes. Direct-to-procedure referrals are tracked like consult referrals: flagged with no contact after 7 days and not seen after 14 days by default. Coordinators see the referring practice.

Does Nuvory cover IBD and liver patients?

Yes, where the data supports it. Nuvory looks for patients with chronic GI diagnoses who are past the follow-up their provider set, and can flag possible PCM or CCM candidates. A clinician reviews every candidate, and nothing is enrolled without clinician approval and patient consent.

What does Nuvory cost for a GI practice?

Recall Intelligence is on Starter at $149 per provider per month. Referral, Procedure, Scheduling, Care Management and Opportunity Intelligence are on Growth at $299 per provider per month. See pricing for details.
