What is cardiology revenue intelligence?

Cardiology revenue intelligence finds cardiac care that was ordered or due but never completed: echo surveillance past due, stress tests and cardiac imaging never scheduled, monitors not returned, heart failure and AFib follow-ups not booked, and referrals never seen. Nuvory, a healthcare revenue leakage intelligence platform, ranks each gap by estimated value, urgency and confidence so staff know who to call first.

Why do cardiac orders stall between the visit and the test?

Cardiac orders stall because cardiology runs on diagnostics, and diagnostics pass through more hands than office visits do. A stress test may need prior authorization, a separate scheduling team, an imaging location and a reading physician. An ambulatory monitor involves enrollment with a monitoring service, device application or shipping, and a report that has to come back. Each hand-off is a place for an order to stall.

Follow-up intervals vary by patient. One valve patient needs an echo on a schedule the cardiologist sets from severity; another needs a visit a few weeks after a medication change. The EHR stores these as recalls, orders and free-text plans, never in one report.

Device clinic adds another layer. Pacemaker and ICD patients have in-office and remote checks on schedules your device team sets. Nuvory can flag device clinic visits that are overdue against those schedules, based on available data. It does not read or interpret device data; that stays with your device team and its monitoring systems.

  • Prior auth delays become dropped orders When authorization takes days, the order leaves the scheduler's view and the patient assumes the practice will call.
  • Post-discharge visits slip A hospital follow-up that is not booked before discharge can go unbooked when nobody owns it. Nuvory sees these where discharge information reaches your EHR or a connected HIE feed (Enterprise).
  • Monitors go missing A device that is never returned leaves an open order and an unanswered clinical question.
  • Referral reasons go unread A referral for an abnormal ECG, a murmur or palpitations waits in the same queue as a routine consult unless the reason is recorded where coordinators can see it.

How does cardiology revenue intelligence connect orders to completed tests?

Nuvory pulls orders, appointments, recalls, problem lists and referrals from your EHR every night and connects them per patient. An open stress test order is matched against scheduled and completed tests. An echo recall is checked against the next booked study. A heart failure patient's last visit is compared with the follow-up the provider set. That is cardiac test order tracking and cardiology patient recall software working from the same data, which is where a reporting tool usually stops. Open tests follow the same logic as procedure recovery across every specialty.

  • Orders Echo, stress, monitor, cardiac imaging and lab orders, with status and age.
  • Schedules Booked, completed, cancelled and no-show appointments across clinic, imaging and device clinic.
  • Recalls and plans Recall dates your clinicians entered for surveillance and follow-up.
  • Diagnoses Heart failure, atrial fibrillation, valve disease, hypertension and other conditions on the problem list.
  • Claims and HIE (optional) Where connected, they show tests completed at a hospital or another group, so staff can close the item instead of calling.

Who decides whether a test is still needed?

Your clinicians. Nuvory flags an order as open based on available data. A clinical reviewer at your practice signs off each rule before it runs, and staff can close an order as no longer needed or done elsewhere, with a reason.

Who on the cardiology team owns each open item?

Nuvory gives each role a short, ranked queue. Scheduling still happens in your EHR.

  1. Clinical reviewer approves rulesA cardiologist or nurse lead approves each rule from HealthArc templates after spot-checking real patients.
  2. Referral coordinatorNew consult referrals with no contact after 7 days surface with the referring provider and referral reason where recorded. This is cardiology referral management without a spreadsheet.
  3. Diagnostic schedulerOpen stress, echo and imaging orders appear with their age and, where recorded, authorization status, so the scheduler can chase pre-cert or book.
  4. Monitor coordinatorMonitors ordered but not applied, or applied but not returned, appear in one list for follow-up.
  5. MAs and front deskPatients overdue for heart failure or AFib follow-up who already have a visit booked are flagged for that visit, not a call.
  6. Care management nurseRPM and CCM candidates go to clinician review. Nothing is enrolled without clinician approval and patient consent.
  7. Practice administratorTests and visits completed after detection are reported against a baseline by location and cardiologist.

Which cardiology metrics show where orders stall?

Track where orders and follow-ups stall, by location and cardiologist. A test completed after detection is measured against the baseline built from your history; treat it as a signal that outreach helped, not as proof.

MetricWhat it tells you
Order-to-completion by test typeStress, echo, monitor and imaging orders completed versus still open.
Age of open cardiac test ordersHow long orders wait before they are scheduled or closed.
Echo surveillance on schedulePatients due for an echo who have one booked or completed.
Post-discharge follow-up bookedDischarged patients with a cardiology visit inside the window your providers set.
Cardiology procedure follow-upVisits after caths, ablations or device implants completed on the schedule your physicians set.
Referral leakage by sourceInbound referrals never scheduled or seen, by referring practice.
Care management candidates reviewedCandidates surfaced, reviewed by clinicians and enrolled with consent.

How does Nuvory sit alongside cardiology EHR, imaging and monitoring systems?

Nuvory works alongside your EHR, your imaging and monitoring vendors, and your reminder tools. It does not replace any of them, and every account is covered by a BAA and the controls on our security page. Nuvory is designed to work with data from athenahealth, where the connection is live, and from Epic, NextGen and other supported EHRs through FHIR R4 APIs and, where the EHR supports it and your organization enables it, bulk export and SMART on FHIR. Scope and data availability are confirmed during discovery.

Results that live only in a monitoring vendor's portal may not be visible unless they flow back into the chart. Discovery confirms that. For the technical detail, read our EHR integration guide.

What should a cardiology group ask a vendor?

Ask whether a tool can tell a stress test waiting on prior auth from one nobody touched, skips patients already booked, keeps device data with your device team, reports by location and cardiologist, and leaves every care management decision with clinicians.

Questions, answered

More in our FAQ, or ask our team.

Does Nuvory read pacemaker or ICD data?

No. Nuvory does not read or interpret device data. Where device clinic visits are recorded in the EHR, it can flag patients overdue against the schedule your device team set. Clinical review of device data stays with your device clinic and its monitoring systems.

Can Nuvory track cardiac monitors that were never returned?

Yes, where the order and its result status are in the EHR. Monitors ordered but not applied, or applied with no result back after the expected window, appear in a list so a coordinator can follow up with the patient or the monitoring service.

How does Nuvory help with cardiology referral management?

Inbound referrals are flagged when there is no contact after 7 days or no visit after 14 days, both configurable. Leaders can see which referring practices send patients who never get scheduled.

Does Nuvory decide which patients qualify for RPM?

No. Nuvory identifies patients who may be candidates for RPM or CCM based on available data and routes them to clinician review. Clinicians decide, and nothing is enrolled without clinician approval and patient consent. Clinical validation may be required.

Will Nuvory flag patients who already have a test booked?

No. Before a patient appears on a list, Nuvory checks the schedule. Patients already booked inside the window are skipped, and items close when the test is completed.

Which EHRs does Nuvory support for cardiology?

athenahealth is live. Epic, eClinicalWorks, ModMed, NextGen, AdvancedMD, Practice Fusion, Veradigm and Elation Health are supported where enabled; scope is confirmed during discovery. See integrations.
